Fediverse Sustainability Survey

This is a survey by the Social Web Foundation about Fediverse sustainability. We are using it to identify financial and staffing needs in the Fediverse.

All responses are confidential. Results will be published in aggregate -- percentages and sums, not information on specific instances.

For this survey, an instance is an independent social networking platform, such as a Mastodon server or a Fediverse-enabled WordPress blog, typically identified by a single DNS domain. Commercial services such as Flipboard or Threads would count as a single instance for this survey.

We divide responsibility for instances into two roles: moderators are responsible for trust and safety, onboarding, and other people issues. Administrators take care of technical issues, like databases, Web servers, or other software. Not all instances follow these role divisions; please try to map your team's roles onto this divide.

Some questions ask about the status of the instance in the current year. If your instance is no longer running, please answer for the most recent year.
